Dear Ms. Cramer,
I am requesting that your organization take a more creation stand on ageism in late-night buffoonery stereotypes of higher-ranking Citizens.
This is no laughing matter. Comedians such as Jay Leno, David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmell and Craig Ferguson would not dare use humor based on racial stereotypes against African-Americans or Latinos that are equally false, and indeed they should not do so. However, they routinely present Senior Citizens as incontinent, unable to pass without being hunched over, unable to dress as opposite adults, and early(a) stereotypical characterizations that lack a itemual basis.
Studies agree revealed that the majority of persons in their sixties are physically vital. In effect, it would be fair to state that seniors are subjected to ridicule on a nightly basis, based on false stereotypes. thithers nothing wrong with laughing about ourselves or another group if it is based on circumstances that accurately reflect the characteristics of a particular group.
One reason for this widespread practice is that Seniors lack an organized advocacy group that addresses ageism in a manner comparable to advocacy for African-American and Latino groups, such as NAACP or LULAC.
I am requesting that your agency take the lead on this organization submit your concerns to the Presidents of the major broadcast networks over ageism in late-night comedy that is based on false stereotypes. The critical point here(predicate) is not the elimination of jokes involving Seniors, but rather the removal of jokes involving incontinence, unfitness to walk or dress normally, limited physical ability, and other unfair characterizations that have no basis in fact and only serve to ridicule Seniors.
It is neither wise nor square for Seniors so the general population to be exposed to such stereotypes.
