The triumphant rise of Christianity in the 1st Century AD can be attributed to several main ideas. First, the Roman Empire, at that time, was full of ill fortune and injustice. Second, Christianity has a syncretistic nature in that it could easily break down into the roman manner of life and beliefs. When Christianity began its growth, the Roman Empire had been on a roller coaster of spectacular success in expanding the empire coupled with inner fermentation among the empires citizens. The Patricians, or wealthy land owners and aristocrats, were farthest outnumbered by the Plebeians, or small farmers, artisans and merchants of the empire. The enlarged land owners apply slave labor instead of using Roman citizens which created large numbers of unemployment. Thus, there was a large divide amid extremely wealthy citizens and extremely poor citizens and created much hardship and injustice.

Christianity is considered to have a syncretistic nature, meaning it adopted many Jewish and pagan cultural elements while leaving out elements that may not fit into the culture of the area in which it started.
