21st July: Visit to Labrador Park The Visit to Labrador Park has been a instead fruitful outing. This Nature Reserve managed to teach us a few historical lessons and events by the display of their historical relics from orb War II. I personally feel that this trip is necessary for us cadets as this history played a portentous role in the history of Singapore, our homeland that we are schooling to defend. Labrador Park, formerly known as Pasir Panjang Beach, holds one of the 11 British forts in Singapore. The old British fort, the Fort Pasir Panjang, was located on the hill next to the sea. This provides good vantage point for the demur site to protect the entrance to the harbours of Singapore. It also became one of the lodge sites in which the British had set up their batteries, playing a huge part in the defense of Singapore. The British make the beach an impenetrable fortress, making it extremely knotty for enemy ships and troops to enter Singapore via that area. It would have proved very useful in combating the enemies. Alas, the site did not bump into oftentimes action during the war. When the Nipponese arrived in Singapore, they, together with their equipment, came from the northerly coast, instead of the Southern coast which the British expected.

No Japanese ships passed through the area at all. As a result, much of the equipment at the fort was put to waste. The Park also consisted of both tunnels, which were discovered recently in 2011. The tunnels served as a computer memory area for ammunition and supplies, as well as protective cover for the British troops. However, the tunnels are not fully open to humankind due to safety reasons. The trip to Labrador Park has taught us many valuable lessons. The one that stands out the most is that Singapore should neer depend on anyone for anything. Be it resources, food or defense.
