Obesity in America is an epidemic come ingrowth out of control. According to the National Health and Nutrition interrogatory Survey (2006), “Among Americans age 20 and older, 145.0 million are fleshy or obese” (p.2). This equates to around 68% of the population for adults over 20 years old from 2001 to 2004. Almost two out of three people are overweight in America, and these amount are growing every year. So the question arises: Are we responsible for our own weight? Many factors often direct to weight gain such as, genetics, physical disorders, disease, culture, habitat, mental illness, want of exercise, and eating habits. While genetics and physical disorders are contribute causes of obesity, studies reveal unhealthy food choices, lack of exercise, and overeating may be the leading factors of obesity among Americans. No matter what the cause, in that respect subsequently remains an obesity epidemic in America.
