The unavowed Life of Walter Mitty Murrell Gramtham Ashford University Introduction to Literature ENG125 Professor Duff December 18, 2010 Abstract The cloistered Life of Walter Mitty was chosen because I found him and his interactions with the other characters in this short story, intriguing. I found myself wanting to explore these interactions, or lack thereof, in an attempt to better understand Walter Mitty. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty Walter Mitty , it turns out, is not only a day dreamer, provided also a very coy soul. Starting with his moon of beingness the Captain of a Navy Hydroplane, which shows him as a take charge, get the job at hand done, commanding figure. Then we see that he is a very timid fellow when his wife wakes him, from the afore mentioned daydream, when she discovers him that he is driving too tight and lets him know that she expects him to drive no faster than 40 miles per hour, and he is driving 55. We then find him play alonging his wifes instructions to put his gloves on, which he does, until he drops her at the debaucher parlor, where she proceeds to remind him to get overshoes. As soon as he drops his wife, he removes his gloves for a short period, until he determines that he really does need the gloves because of the cold.

In the meantime he begins oneirism that he is one of the worlds most exalted surgeons. Upon arriving at the hospital, he is introduced to fellow surgeons, who bow to his expertise and follow the plan he lays out for the patients care. Here again, he is portrayed, in his mind, as a commanding figure. While daydreaming of being a world renowned surgeon, he finds himself at a traffic light, where a police officer finds it necessary to tell him to move on, since the light had changed from red to green.
