Another work that stood out was the Seated Buddha Preaching the First Sermon. This is a pleasing sculpture of the Buddha, rich with meaning and purpose. The Buddha appears very smooth and inactive in a posture of meditation to show the goal of detachment from the material world.



The orb of the sun is behind the Buddha, which represents the Buddhas light radiating throughout the world. The six disciples turn the turn over of the Law below him where the Buddha gave his first sermon. This sculpture could be use to help during an actual meditation and to remind others what they are exhausting to attain by meditating, which the Buddhists refer to as nirvana.
The Potala monastery palace in the holy city of Lhasa is breathtaking. The palace is mostly a bright white with the red atrium in the middle, which holds the tomb of the one-fifth Dalai Lama.
